The Mawlawi takiyya was the lodge of the Mevlevi order, the followers of Jalal al-Din Rumi, in Cairo, and it was built in the Ottoman period around the fourteenth-century madrasa and tomb of the amir Sunqur Sa'di. The dervishes held their ceremonies of dhikr and music here into the twentieth century. Its wooden theatre for the whirling ceremony, with a circular dance floor and galleries above, was restored by an Italian team and is now a museum, along with Sunqur Sa'di's tomb. It stands on al-Suyufiyya Street, near the Sultan Hasan Mosque.
