This was the khalwa of Sayyida Nafisa bint al-Hasan, the place where she withdrew for worship at the foot of al-Muqattam. Sayyida Nafisa, the great-granddaughter of Sayyiduna al-Hasan ibn Ali, is buried in her mosque in al-Khalifa, a short distance to the west. The khalwa stands opposite the mosque of Ibn Ata Allah al-Iskandari, beside the tomb of Ibn Abi Jamra, in the old cemetery quarter below the hills.
