This house was built in 1637 by Jamal al-Din al-Dhahabi, son of the head of Cairo's merchants. It is one of the few Ottoman merchant houses left in the old city. Shops and storerooms open onto the lanes on the ground floor, and the entrance leads to a courtyard with a fountain, a raised loggia and a reception hall above. It stands in Hawsh Qadam lane off al-Muizz Street at al-Ghuriyya.
