The bimaristan of al-Mu'ayyad Shaykh was a hospital built by the sultan between 1418 and 1420, on the southern edge of Darb al-Ahmar near the Citadel. It did not serve as a hospital for long, and it stood in ruins for many years. Its tall facade and grand portal survive, with stonework of the finest quality of the period, and the main walls have been restored. It lies below the Citadel, near Bab al-Wazir and the takiyya of al-Bistami.
