This mausoleum was built in the tenth century over the graves of members of the Tabataba family, sharifs descended from Sayyiduna al-Hasan ibn Ali, and is among the oldest Islamic tombs in Cairo. It was later moved and rebuilt on its present site in Old Cairo to protect it from rising groundwater.
