Ahmad Taymur Pasha was a scholar of the Arabic language and history and one of the great collectors of Arabic manuscripts. His library, the Taymuriyya, now forms part of Dar al-Kutub in Cairo, and his sons Muhammad and Mahmud Taymur became pioneers of the modern Egyptian short story. He passed away in 1930. His tomb is in the Qarafa north of Imam al-Shafi'i, beside the grave of Shaykh al-Azhar Muhammad al-Khidr Husayn.
