Mustafa al-Bakri was born in Damascus in 1099 AH and became the great renewer of the Khalwati path, writing more than two hundred works and over sixty litanies and prayers, among them Wird al-Sahar, which is still recited across the Muslim world. He travelled widely, settled in Cairo in his last years and passed away there in 1162 AH. His grave is in the Mujawirin cemetery in the eastern Qarafa, off Sultan Ahmad Street, and it has long been visited.
