Shaykh Hasanayn al-Hasafi was a Hasani sharif and the founder of the Hasafiyya branch of the Shadhili way, which spread widely through the Delta in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His son Muhammad Abd al-Wahhab al-Hasafi succeeded him as shaykh of the way and is buried beside him. Their mosque stands in the al-Hasafi quarter of Damanhur near the railway station.
