Abd al-Qadir al-Dashtuti took his name from the village of Dashtut in Beni Suef. Al-Sha'rani counted him among the great awliya and recorded his counsel that a heart which leans even for a moment towards the treasures of the world is occupied with other than God. He looked after many mosques in Cairo and the villages, was loved by ordinary people and the elite alike, and was called 'Sahib Misr'. He passed away on 9 Sha'ban 924 AH at the age of 88. He is buried in his mosque near Bab al-Sha'riyya.
