Abd al-Wahhab al-Sha'rani was born in 898 AH in Saqiyat Abu Sha'ra in the Delta and came to Cairo as a boy, where he studied with al-Suyuti, Zakariyya al-Ansari and many others. He found his path with the unlettered master Ali al-Khawwas and wrote many works on law, Sufism and the lives of the awliya. He passed away in 973 AH. His mosque, where he taught, stands at Bab al-Sha'riyya. Mazarat Misr records that his teacher Nur al-Din al-Shuni also lies in it, and the mosque has been closed for repairs in recent years.
