The Čekrekčija Masjid was completed in 1526 and is one of the oldest domed mosques in Sarajevo. Its endowment deed names its founder as Hajji Mustafa, son of Ishak, known as Muslihudin Čekrekčija, and it stands at the foot of the Kovači quarter in the old trading heart of the Baščaršija. It is a classic Ottoman mosque with a single dome and a stone minaret about 32 metres high, surrounded by the small shops of the bazaar. It was declared a national monument in 2004 and remains a busy place of prayer, with a women's gallery upstairs.
