Ribat Tarim is the historic seminary of Tarim, founded in the late nineteenth century by the town's scholars. Generations of jurists and teachers studied here, and many went on to teach across Hadramawt, East Africa and South-East Asia. The ribat is a whitewashed building around a courtyard with arcades, in the old town close to the al-Saqqaf and Ba-Alawi mosques, and it still teaches students today.
