Dar al-Izz was the palace of Queen Arwa bint Ahmad al-Sulayhi, who ruled Yemen for decades and moved the Sulayhid capital to Jibla in the late eleventh century. When she moved here she turned the older palace into the mosque that bears her name and built Dar al-Izz as her residence. The remains of the palace stand on the hillside of Jibla, above the Queen Arwa Mosque, with views over the green terraces of the valley.
