Shaykh Arslan al-Dimashqi was a Sufi master of Damascus in the sixth Islamic century (the twelfth century CE). He worked as a carpenter and became known for his piety and spiritual teaching, and his short treatise on the oneness of Allah, al-Risalah al-Raslaniyyah, was later explained by scholars such as Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi. The people of Damascus long regarded him as the spiritual guardian of the city. His tomb lies in a mosque just outside the old city walls near Bab Touma, beside a small cemetery that bears his name. The mosque has been restored and remains a place of prayer and gatherings of remembrance, especially on Fridays.
