Abu Muslim Abdullah ibn Thuwab al-Khawlani was a righteous man of Yemen who accepted Islam in the lifetime of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ but reached Madinah only after his passing, and so is counted among the Tabi'in. He is remembered for his steadfastness when the false prophet al-Aswad al-Ansi had him thrown into a fire and he came out unharmed. He later settled in Syria and was known as one of the wise and devout men of Damascus. His shrine and mosque stand in Daraya, south-west of Damascus. Ibn Kathir wrote that his grave was well known in Daraya, although other reports say he passed away on campaign in Byzantine lands, so the site may mark the place where he lived. An old domed prayer hall from the Ottoman period stands beside the grave, and the Companion Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani is said to be buried nearby.
