The Manjak Mosque in the al-Midan district was built in the eighth Islamic century (fourteenth century) by the family of the amir Manjak, who served as Mamluk governor of Damascus under Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun and also founded a madrasa and a bathhouse. The mosque has been renovated, but its stone façade and minaret survive from the original building. It is used for prayer and for teaching the Qur'an.
