في أعالي جبل قاسيون، فوق حي ركن الدين، يؤدي درج طويل من عدة مئات من الدرجات إلى المزار المعروف باسم مقام الأربعين، مزار الأربعين. وفي داخله كهف يُسمى مغارة…
High on Mount Qasiyun above the Rukn al-Din district, a long stairway of several hundred steps leads up to the shrine known as Maqam al-Arba'in, the Shrine of the Forty. Inside is a cave called Magharat al-Dam, the Cave of Blood, which local tradition links with the killing of Habil by his brother Qabil, the first murder in human history. A reddish streak in the rock and an opening shaped like a mouth are pointed out to visitors. The name of the Forty refers to a tradition of forty righteous men who worshipped here. The shrine has small prayer niches and offers sweeping views over Damascus. Opening hours can be irregular, so it is best to go with someone local.
