Sahoud Palace is a fortress in the centre of al-Mubarraz in al-Ahsa, built around 1790 to 1800 to protect the town and its farms and to shelter its people in times of siege. It takes its name from a cannon that once stood inside it. Its outer walls, about six metres high with a parapet on both faces, enclose some 10,000 square metres with seven towers of different shapes, an open courtyard and a mosque with stone columns and a minbar set into the wall. A moat once ran around it. The Heritage Commission restored the fort in 2020, and visitors report that it has been closed at times for further work.
