While the Muslims were digging the trench in 5 AH, food was very short and Nabi Muhammad ﷺ himself was suffering from hunger. Jabir ibn Abdullah, seeing this, went home and had his wife prepare a small goat and a little barley bread, and quietly invited the Prophet ﷺ with a few others. The Prophet ﷺ instead called all the diggers to come, blessed the food, and it was enough to feed the whole company with food to spare. Masjid Bani Haram, the mosque of Jabir's clan, stands at the foot of Mount Sal' near the area of the trench. The present building is modern, but it keeps the memory of this well-loved miracle and of Jabir's generosity.
