This mansion on the north-eastern side of old Makkah was built by Muhammad Ali Pasha as the residence of the emir of the city. It later became the home of Sharif Awn al-Rafiq Pasha, Grand Sharif of Makkah from 1882 to 1905, and it appears under his name on the Ottoman General Staff map of the city. Ibrahim Rifat Pasha admired its projecting mashrabiyya windows of carved red Indian wood. The mansion no longer stands. Its site lies about 570 metres north-east of the Ka'bah.
