Jubayr ibn Mut'im of the clan of Nawfal ibn Abd Manaf was a Companion known for his knowledge of the genealogies of the Arabs, which he learned from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. He accepted Islam after the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyyah, or by other accounts at the conquest of Makkah, took part in the Battle of Hunayn, and narrated about sixty hadith. Umar ibn al-Khattab asked him to help draw up the register of the Muslims, and he passed away in 59 AH. His house stood on the eastern side of Masjid al-Haram. Nothing of it survives, and its site lies about 100 metres east of the Ka'bah, close to the site of Dar al-Arqam.
