This was the palace of Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab al-Faihani, a pearl merchant who settled at Darin on Tarout Island, then one of the pearling ports of the Gulf. He rebuilt an older fort on the site as his residence, completing the work in Safar 1303 AH (November 1885), and it has carried his name since. The two-storey building, with a tower at its south-eastern corner and two wells, was built of sea stone, clay and gypsum with timber of local palm and wood brought from India. Much of it fell over the last century, and the site has been under restoration in recent years. It stands near the shore at Darin, at the southern end of Tarout Island.
