This college was founded in 1886 as the Dayanand Anglo Vedic (DAV) College and was renamed Islamia College after 1947, when the DAV institution moved to India. Its alumni include Choudhry Rahmat Ali, who coined the name Pakistan, two prime ministers, chief justices, the cricketers Abdul Hafeez Kardar and Fazal Mahmood, and the poets Majeed Amjad and Nasir Kazmi. The red-brick campus with its lawns lies in Civil Lines, close to the Lower Mall, Government College University and Data Darbar. It is separate from Islamia College on Railway Road.
