About Grave of Sharf-un-Nisa Begum (Cypress Tomb)

The Cypress Tomb is the grave of Sharf al-Nisa Begum, sister of Nawab Zakariya Khan, governor of Lahore in the eighteenth century. She used the raised chamber as a place of retreat and prayer during her life and was buried inside it. The tomb is a tall, narrow brick tower in Begumpura, with the burial chamber set high above the ground. Its outer walls carry glazed tile panels of cypress trees, which give the tomb its local name, Saru Wala Maqbara. It stands near the tombs of Dai Anga and Hazrat Ishan.
