The mosque of the amir Shaykhu was built in 1349 and his khanqah across the street in 1355, by one of the most powerful amirs of the reign of Sultan Hasan. The khanqah housed a community of Sufis and teachers of law. The two buildings face each other on Saliba Street, each with a minaret, and the founder is buried in his khanqah. They stand between the Ibn Tulun Mosque and the Sultan Hasan Mosque.
