Rokn Farouk was built in 1941 and 1942 as a winter rest house for King Farouk on the Nile at Helwan, and he opened it in September 1942. It is now a museum. Its rooms display furniture, gifts and belongings of the Muhammad Ali family, and its garden runs down to the river. It stands on the Nile Corniche at Helwan, south of central Cairo.
