The Museum of Islamic Art opened in 1903 and holds one of the largest collections of Islamic art in the world, with more than a hundred thousand objects from India and Persia to al-Andalus. Its building, in the Mamluk revival style, stands at Bab al-Khalq. Highlights include Mamluk glass mosque lamps, carved wooden panels from the Fatimid palaces, early Qur'an manuscripts, metalwork, ceramics and carpets. The museum was fully renovated and reopened in 2017.
