The madrasa of the amir Sarghatmish was built in 1356 beside the mosque of Ibn Tulun and was devoted to teaching the Hanafi school. Its founder, an amir of Sultan Hasan, is buried under its dome. Its courtyard is surrounded by four vaulted halls, and its brick domes are of a style rare in Cairo. It stands on Saliba Street against the outer wall of the Ibn Tulun Mosque.
