The mosque of Janim al-Bahlawan was built in 1478, in the reign of Sultan Qaytbay, by the amir Janim al-Bahlawan, as a madrasa with his tomb beside it. Its stone dome is carved all over with a fine pattern, a fine example of late Mamluk carving. The mosque stands on al-Surugiyya Street in Darb al-Ahmar and has been closed to visitors for some years.
