Yusuf al-Ajami was the first in Egypt to revive the path of al-Junayd after it had died out, and he was known for the devotion and careful training of his disciples, who filled several zawiyas. Mazarat Misr tells how he and Hasan al-Tusturi agreed that only one of them should lead, and al-Tusturi chose to serve him. He passed away on 15 Jumada al-Ula 768 AH. His shrine and mosque stand at Dar al-Salam, on the old agricultural road from Cairo to Helwan.
