Nur al-Din al-Shuni grew up in the village of Shuni near Tanta and started a gathering for sending blessings on the Prophet ﷺ at the shrine of Ahmad al-Badawi, which lasted from the sunset prayer on Thursday until the call to the Friday prayer. He moved to Cairo and in 897 AH began the same gathering at al-Azhar, where it drew great crowds. He was one of the teachers of Abd al-Wahhab al-Sha'rani and passed away in 944 AH. His shrine is inside the mosque of al-Sha'rani at Bab al-Sha'riyya, where his student also lies.
