Ali ibn Hijazi al-Bayumi was a Shafi'i scholar and a shaykh of the Khalwati and Ahmadi paths, born in 1108 AH, who wrote a commentary on al-Suyuti's al-Jami' al-Saghir among other works. He was at home with the powerful and the poor alike, and Mazarat Misr tells that highway robbers who sat in his gatherings of dhikr gave up their ways and became his devoted followers. He passed away in 1183 AH. He is buried in his mosque in al-Husayniyya, just outside Bab al-Sha'riyya.
