Al-Qa'qa' ibn Amr al-Tamimi was a Companion and one of the bravest commanders of the early conquests. Local tradition holds that he took the old Roman fort at al-Manzala and settled here, and the people of the town honour this mosque as his resting place. The mosque, also called the Ibn Tamim mosque, is one of the oldest in al-Manzala, and his tomb is in an annex beside it.
