Shaykh Shata gave his name to the village of Shata on the shore of Lake Manzala east of Damietta. Local tradition remembers him as a convert who fought alongside the Muslims in the conquest and fell here in 21 AH. His mosque, one of the oldest in the area, contains his shrine and stands on the old road through the village beside its cemetery.
