Sayyida Aisha, daughter of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq and sister of Imam Musa al-Kazim, settled in Egypt, where she was known for her worship and her generosity to anyone who came to her door. She passed away in 145 AH and is buried here at the foot of the Citadel. The present mosque was built in 1971 and is one of the busiest in the old city, with a well-known Friday market around it. It gives its name to the Sayyida Aisha district, at the northern edge of the great Qarafa cemetery.
