The funerary complex of Sultan al-Ashraf Barsbay was built in the Northern Cemetery and completed in 1432. It brought together a mosque, a khanqah for Sufis and the domed tomb where the sultan is buried. Its stone dome is carved with a star pattern, one of the finest of its kind in Cairo, and the prayer hall keeps a wooden minbar inlaid with ivory and a marble mihrab. Smaller domes and the long street facade of the complex stand near the complexes of Inal and Qaytbay in the same cemetery.
