The complex of Sultan al-Ashraf Qansuh al-Ghuri was built in 1503 to 1505, one of the last great buildings of the Mamluk era. A madrasa-mosque and a tomb face each other across al-Muizz Street, which runs between them. The tomb side also holds a khanqah, a sabil and a kuttab. The mosque has a tall minaret crowned with four small bulb-shaped tops. The complex stands where al-Muizz Street meets al-Azhar Street.
