The Umari mosque is the great mosque of Qus, which was the main city of Upper Egypt in the Fatimid and Mamluk periods. It was founded in the Fatimid era and enlarged under the Mamluks and Ottomans. It is one of the largest mosques in Qus, with long arcaded halls, and it was renewed about ten years ago while keeping its old character.
