About Al-Amri Minaret (Esna)

The Amri minaret of Esna was built in 474 AH, around 1081, under the Fatimid vizier Badr al-Jamali and is one of the oldest minarets in Egypt. Its marble inscription is the first in Egypt to call a minaret a mi'dhana. It is all that survives of the old mosque. It stands near the Temple of Esna in the centre of the town, and it has a slight lean.
