Prusac, known in Ottoman times as Akhisar, is a small hill town above the valley of the Vrbas, near Donji Vakuf. Its stone clock tower is one of the reminders of the town's importance in the Ottoman period, when clock towers told the time for prayer and for the working day. Prusac is best known as the town of Ajvaz Dede and the Ajvatovica gathering, and as the birthplace of Hasan Kafi Pruščak (1544-1615), one of the most important Bosnian scholars, whose writings on justice and good government were read across the Ottoman world. The clock tower, the fortress ruins, the old mosques and Ajvaz Dede's turbe can all be seen on a walk through the town.
