The Jeni Masjid, also called the Hasan Agha Masjid, stands in the Varoš quarter of Travnik, about three hundred metres south-west of the fortress. An inscription above the entrance dates it to 1549 and names its founder, Hasan Agha, who probably served at the fortress. Its name, Jeni, means 'new', suggesting it replaced an earlier mosque on the same site. The mosque is a national monument, and its twenty old calligraphic panels (levhas) are protected with it, two of them in the rooms of the zawiya attached to the mosque. It is one of the oldest mosques in Travnik and makes a natural stop on the walk up to the fortress.
