Busra in southern Syria was a great trading city on the caravan route from Makkah to Syria. The seerah tells that when Nabi Muhammad ﷺ was a boy of about twelve and travelled here with his uncle Abu Talib's caravan, a Christian monk named Bahira noticed signs of prophethood in him and warned his uncle to take great care of him. The ruined basilica in old Busra traditionally known as the Monastery of Bahira is shown as the place connected with this meeting. The building itself is a Byzantine church, and it is a meaningful stop for those interested in the early life of the Prophet ﷺ. Busra is also known for its Roman theatre and early mosques.
