Ubaydullah ibn Umar was a son of Umar ibn al-Khattab who grew up among the Companions in Madinah. In the conflict that followed the caliphate of Uthman he joined Mu'awiyah, and he was killed at the Battle of Siffin in 37 AH. His tomb stands in Homs and is visited by those who come to the city for the Mosque of Khalid ibn al-Walid and its other old graves.
