The Mashati Mosque, also called the Mosque of Zayd ibn Thabit al-Ansari, is considered the oldest surviving mosque in Latakia. It is believed to have been built after Salah al-Din took the city from the Crusaders in 584 AH (1188), incorporating parts of earlier buildings. It stands in the al-Sulaybah quarter of the old city and remains an active place of prayer.
