Abu Qubays castle stands on a mountain edge overlooking the Ghab plain west of Hama. It was one of the fortresses of the Nizari Isma'ilis in the time of the Crusades and changed hands several times between local rulers, Crusaders and Isma'ilis. Its ruins command wide views over the plain below. The site is remote and little visited, and is best seen as part of a wider tour of the castles of the area.
