The northern Thaniyyat al-Wada', the Pass of Farewell, was the rise on the road towards Syria where the people of Madinah accompanied departing travellers and welcomed them home. Nabi Muhammad ﷺ was seen off and greeted here on campaigns to the north, including the expedition to Tabuk in 9 AH. The site lies north-west of Masjid al-Nabawi, near Mount Sal'.
