Masjid Aqabat Harsha stands on the old road between Madinah and Makkah, at the pass of Harsha near al-Abwa'. Abdullah ibn Umar, who followed the route of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ closely, reported that the Prophet ﷺ stopped beneath trees in a watercourse below Harsha, and the mosque marks one of the stopping places remembered on this pilgrims' road. Today it is a small whitewashed mosque standing alone in open desert among low black hills. The grave of Sayyida Aminah, the mother of the Prophet ﷺ, at al-Abwa' lies a short drive to the north-west.
