This grave in al-Baqi' is traditionally associated with three daughters of Nabi Muhammad ﷺ and Sayyidah Khadijah. Sayyidah Ruqayyah emigrated to Abyssinia with her husband Uthman ibn Affan and passed away in Madinah in 2 AH, while the Muslims were away at Badr. Her sister Sayyidah Umm Kulthum then married Uthman and passed away in 9 AH. Sayyidah Zaynab, the eldest daughter, passed away in 8 AH, not long after her husband Abu al-As had accepted Islam and joined her in Madinah. Their resting place was covered for centuries by a dome known as the dome of the daughters, which stood until the demolitions of 1926. Today the spot is marked by plain stones, and visitors remember the daughters of the Prophet ﷺ who shared in the hardships of the early years of Islam. Their sister, Sayyidah Fatimah, is remembered with the family graves nearby.
