Al-Tall al-Zaynabi is the rise from which, according to tradition, Sayyida Zaynab, the daughter of Sayyiduna Ali and sister of Sayyiduna al-Husayn, watched the battle of Karbala on Ashura in 61 AH and saw her brother fall. A small shrine now stands on the spot, just west of the shrine of Sayyiduna al-Husayn, and it is one of the places pilgrims visit on their way around the old centre of Karbala.
