Shaykh Mustafa ibn Muhammad al-Safawi al-Qal'awi was a Shafi'i jurist and historian, born in 1158 AH. He lived for many years in the Citadel, al-Qal'a, and went down each day to teach at al-Azhar. A long-time student of Shaykh Ahmad al-Arusi, who authorised him to give fatwas, he wrote glosses on works of law and rhetoric, a history of the rulers of Egypt and a book on the members of the family of the Prophet ﷺ buried in Egypt. He passed away in Ramadan 1230 AH. He was prayed over at al-Azhar and buried in the zawiya of Siraj al-Din al-Bulqini in al-Jamaliyya, near Bab al-Futuh, where the Bulqini scholars and Shaykh Hasan al-Mawsili are also buried.
